Minimum is usually first thing in the morning before bronchodilator; maximum is usually midafternoon after bronchodilator. Variations of 20% tend to indicate the possibility of asthma. Patients need to establish their ‘personal best’ reading; then maintain in the 80-100% region using asthma drugs and other treatment. Ellis
