Atypical depression and social anxiety

Question:

Hi everyone – I’m hoping some of you can offer up your experiences with meds for depression vs. (or in conjuction with) meds for social anxiety.  I’ve gotten some relief with Wellbutrin and definitely notice if I’ve forgotten my dose for a couple days in a row.  But it doesn’t seem to be enough in terms of getting enough energy or motivation to make contact with others. I’d like to try Parnate but I’m afraid I’ll have to give up whatever I’ve gained from the Wellbutrin.  Does anyone know if Parnate or Nardil cn be used in conjunction with any antidepressants or can Parnate/Nardil stand on their own and help with both social anxiety and depression? Thanks.

The MAOIs cannot be taken with any of the SSRRIs…there is a 3 week wash out period. Avoid mixing MAOIs and SSRIs. This can lead to serotonin syndrome and can be dangerous. 2.      Do not mix MAOIs with Stimulants (including MDMA). This can lead to hypertensive crisis and can be deadly. 3.      SSRIs in Combination with MDMA Generally reduces the effects of the MDMA significantly. 4.      SSRIs in Combination with Psychedelics Generally reduce the effects of the psychedelic a bit. 5.      MAOIs in Combination with Psychedelics Generally increase the effects of the psychedelic significantly. Be extremely careful. SSRIs Strong SSRIs are significantly more common than MAOIs. Many commonly prescribed pharmaceutical anti-depressants are SSRIs, including Prozac (Fluoxetine), Paxil (Paroxetine), Zoloft (Sertraline), Celexa (Citalopram), and Desyrel (Trazodone). MAOIs Strong MAOIs are less common, but include prescription anti-depressants like Nardil (phenelzine), Parnate (tranylcypromine), Marplan (isocarboxazid), Eldepryl (l-deprenyl), and Aurorex or Manerix (moclobemide). Ayahuasca also contains MAOIs, generally in the form of Banisteriopsis caapi or Syrian rue (harmine and harmaline). Parnate hs been used for social anxiety. http://www.driesen.com/imoas.htm
