umm yes, well you’ve probably damaged your lungs. It won’t show on X-ray unless you’ve got fluid collections. As UnMom said, get PFT, drink lots of water, it’ll take time to de-toxify, perhaps if you’re lungs weren’t too bad to start, they’ll heal.  However, based on your history you *may* now be in full-blown asthma. An open window might have helped and/or fan, or made it worse, suckiing more chems out of the toilet bowl and past the area where you were breathing, up your lungs. The problem was dumping that stuff together, then breathing it in while you were dumping.  You got a chemical reaction in your lungs. No telling what harm’s been done. Follow the symptoms. Here’s in part why, I don’t expect much improvement, the problems just keep moving around.  We are our own worst enemies for air pollution. http://www.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/asiapcf/south/08/12/asia.haze/index.html JMO J

If there was ammonia in the toilet bowl cleaner, the mixture produces an airborne poison. Response:

Thank you all for your gracious responses. Yes, the bathroom window WAS OPEN and no, I did not breathe in nor inhale. When I went to flush, I covered mouth and nose and did NOT breathe. Thanks again.

Response:

Bleach and ammonia creates chlorine gas.  Never mix cleaning products. This kind of accident can cure you of LIFE!  You can permanently scar lung tissue as well. jay

Response:

>Bleach and ammonia creates chlorine gas.

The amine group in ammonia combines with the clorine in bleach to form chloramine gas, not CL2. A seemingly small distinction, but it’s worth noting.

Response:

First don’t ever use something like this especially if it doesn’t have a window to open.  Second, why have you not had an x-ray and pulmonary tests to rule in or out any problems.  If you haven’t been to a pulmonary, I would highly recommend you do so and as soon as you can so that you can get to the bottom of this and make sure it is just a cold or sinus infection and so on. About a month ago, I came down with a bad chest cold, which led to about 3 weeks coughing. I have had significant allergies, but since it has been so hot in NE lately, I have mostly been ensconsed in ac. 2 weeks ago, to get rid of some cleaners, I threw some toilet bowl cleaner and Ultra bleach (concentrated, no water added) into toilet bowl. In about a minute the fumes were overwhelming. I went back into bathroom, not breathing, with towel over nose and mouth just to flush stuff down drain. Last night, I awoke with a feeling that my lungs were covered with a film–having some difficulty breathing–as if mucus coated my lungs.  When I sat up and drank some water and read a bit and cranked up the AC, I was able to sleep. My internist told me once I was like a pre-asthmatic.  One ENT once gave me 3 day script for steroids to breathe during a September coughing at nite episode. Q: What does this sound like?  I seem pretty good in daytime, but my throat does have post nasal drip. My endo did not hear anything significant in my lungs 2.5 weeks ago, when I visited for an unrelated problem. My thanks to all.  Any guidance would be appreciated.  Only using Nasalcrom currently and 1x or 2x a week Zyrtec.  As I said, it has been way too hot and humid to venture outside much.
