Where can you get the "best" medical care in the U.S.A as an asthmatic?
Question:
While I’ve not looked into it for asthma care, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has an excellent reputation. http://www.chop.edu. At the very least, I found some interesting reading for myself by searching on the word ‘asthma’ on their site. There are two medical centers that are competing with each other for the title of ‘best in the world’ for the treatment of asthma – National Jewish in Colorado and John Hopkins in Massachusetts(?). — "We are fighting today for security, for progress, and for peace, not only for ourselves but for all men, not only for one generation but for all generations. I believe this set an all-time record on this group for unanimity of opinion. There are other superb treatment centers, of course, but everyone agrees about National Jewish. Larry

I agree, but I wish they were better rated on the evaluation and care of chronic sinusitis. Chronic sinusitis is the underlying trigger of all my other respiratory problems. There are top-rated hospitals for asthma. There are top-rated hospitals for sinusitis. But there are very few hospitals that are top-rated for both. — Steven D. Litvintchouk

Johns Hopkins is in Baltimore Maryland. But Massachusetts General Hospital is a good all-around hospital for most things including asthma. — Steven D. Litvintchouk

Wasn’t sure about the location. — "We are fighting today for security, for progress, and for peace, not only for ourselves but for all men, not only for one generation but for all generations. My daughter was treated at National Jewish in Denver. We live in Portland Oregon and she was hospitalized in Dorenbecher Children’s Hospital(the children’s hospital in Oregon) for awhile here her pulmonologist was having problems getting her asthma under control and she was hospitalized for a long time. He had her life flighted to Denver Children’s hospital where we stayed for about two weeks then when her asthma was more stable they took her at National Jewish. The found that she has steroid resistant asthma and can’t absorb steroids in the form of a pill correctly so she has to take Orapred(a liquid steroid), she also had lung damage, loss of bone due to steroids, and severe acid reflux. She had a Nissen Fundoplication for her acid reflux where they tie the stomache around the esophogus to prevent acid from going into her esophogus and getting into her lungs. I would strongly recommend National Jewish the people there are really nice and you can stay at the local Ronald McDonald house for $15 a night. It’s really a great hospital. -Mary Lou

I would like to third that!! They did a really good job of helping my nephews stepson. He was in his early teens, or there about, and a severe asthmatic who did not have good control. They helped him get his life back to a more normal state, with less medication and better control. Sue

May I second this suggestion, particularly as you are considering the care of a youngster. For decades National Jewish has been a leader in the evaluation and care of severe asthma. Larry
