Suddenly, I can't breathe…?!?!?!

Question:

I just relocated from the high desert southwest to a suburban area outside Richmond.  At altitude & in the severely dry and hot climate, I had no problem running, mountain biking, etc..  In fact, I’m quite competitive and in great shape.  However, altho it’s already been two weeks, I’m having terrible bouts of tightness and difficulty breathing!  For example, today (a clear day), I went for a 30 mile bike ride (on road).  I usually try to ‘warm up’ for the first 10 minutes or so, not wanting to put my ‘in shock’ lungs into more shock.  The first hour, I’d say I could breathe about 60% of my total lung capacity, as they were quite tight.  Then suddenly I could fill my lungs.  For the final 45 minutes, however, it was horrible.  I’ll bet I was getting about 20%.  It was so tight that I felt that my ribs would break in trying to get a deep breath.  Fortunately, I feel that my body is conditioned well enough that my leg muscles could get me home, but i now feel exhausted, though I don’t feel the physical satisfaction that I (and my lungs) deserve!! I went to a DR last week about this, and she gave me ALBUTEROL (inhalant) and CLARIFIL (pill) assuming it might by allergy-induced asthma.  I’m  27 yrs old with no known allergies nor asthma.  I’ve always been athletic and VERY active (my life would be worthless could I not treat my body to 3-4 hours daily of activity), and actually, I’ve spent almost all my life in this (eastern) type climate, only one year in the desert (I loved it there, but my job transferred me back here). I will be paying for medical/clinic attention from my own pocket, so I do not have the resources to keep going from doctor to doctor to figure this out.  I hope that someone could at least point me in the right direction…asthma? allergies?  what can I do to prevent this?  IT’S VERY FRUSTRATING!!!! Thanks…

You might give yourself a little more time to get used to your new location. As for no insurance, above is a link that may help you find help with the finance.  There is also (if you are in the US) clinics that you pay on a scale of what you earn.  UM MOM Susan

Plus, it’s not so much the money that’s an issue.  It’s the time spent trying to find someone who can help.  There are so many doctors/specialists these days, most of whom are booked solid for month.   I simply want to know who to see, then get in, get out.  My lungs fixed, the end.  Possible??

Probably the problem is the difference  in humidity. The higher in humidity and the more difficult in breathing for me. I live in TN which has a very high humidity in the summer.

Response:

So, if it’s mere humidity, what should i do?  I’m serious, it’s horrible when I can’t breathe!!!  I’ve lived over 20 yrs in northern FLA where it’s very humid.  Is there such thing as humidity-induced asthma?

Response:

The only remedy with high humidity and dew o]point is that I have to use my Albuterol more often. Sometimes it iss almost like breathing water. If anyone knows a solution I would sure like to know with moving to a arid climate.

Properly treated asthma should require only minimal use of an albuterol inhaler.  See your doctor and talk to him about asthma medications.  I take a pile of them but no longer need my Albuterol inhaler. -S-

I agree I should have stated to check with his doctor. I merely was pointing out that hi humidity will affect your breathing.

Hi, I am an alternative medicine doctor from India. 20 years back when there were no medicines available in India for Asthma there was a saying here that he who has Asthma is going to live long. Old people (80-90)who had asthmatic attacks were a common sight. That Asthma could kill was not known then. I had Asthma in my childhood (I am 45 now). At that time there was no treatment for Asthma. I and my sister (5 years younger to me) who also had asthma used to have attacks a few times a year.We had to suffur for 3-5 days and then the attack would vanish. I stopped getting the attacks after I joined a residential engineering college very far from my home. However my sister who remained with my parents continued to have the attacks. I worked as an engineer in various capacities and got interested in alternative therapies in the meanwhile. I found that my sister stopped getting asthma attacks after taking medicines but after some time she had developed Sciatica, High BP, various pains, Hypothyrodism, etc. as time went on. This forced me to enquire deeply into the nature of chronic diseases. I have come to the conclusion that disease is a disturbance at the energy level (I am a Reiki Master and do energy healing work). Everyone has an auto-immune system which is like a computer software which maintains the body’s health. Due to heridity and other factors this software gets corrupted and the disease force attacks those portions of our body where our auto-immune system is weak (where the software is corrupted}. In the case of asthma there is  a compromise between the immune system and disease force and the disease manifests as asthma. So long as this asthma is not suppressed with medicines the patient is relatively disease free. However when the asthma is suppressed the disease progresses to more vital systems of the body and manifests as gastric problems, muscle/bone pains, blood pressure, hypothyroidism, diabetes, paralysis ie it follows the body’s hierarchy (least vital to most vital)– 1st level:skin to 2nd level:respiratory/gasrtic/urinary tracts to 3rd level:organs like heart/lungs/kidney etc. to 4th level: endocrine glands (thyroid, pancreas etc.) to 5th level: nervous system/ brain (paralysis, tingling etc.)to 6th level: basic cell code (cancer, alzimer’s disease). After frequent tratment with medicines if the asthma persists it becomes cronic. The patient who used to get the attacks a few time a year or under certain conditions now get them frequently and has to take medicines or use the inhaler frequently. Now the asthma is no longer a disease of the respiratory tract but has advanced insidiously from 2nd level to the 4th level in the body’s hierarchy and hasbecome cardiac asthma(or something similar)and the asthma which would have remained harmless throughout the patients lifetime can now kill the patient. No wonder Asthma which used to contribute to a persons longietivity has now become a killer disease due to suppressive treatment with medicines. After I became a doctor of alternative medicine I took up my sister’s case first. After proper constitutional treatment with Biochemic tissue salts, Bach Flower Remedies and Homeopathy she is free of all her problems including asthma. She had one mild attack of asthma during the mcourse of treatment. My experience has been the same with all the patients whom I have treated for asthma and are now leading a healthy life. Hence my advice to everyone – if you don’t know how to treat constitutionally don’t treat asthma. Left as such asthma, although very distressing, doesnot cause any harm, but if treated suppressively it can kill. Bye.(If you wish to know more send me an email). To what are you referring???

Response:

Where did you pop up from?

Response:

You might get yourself a de-humidifier.  At least while you’re inside, including sleeping, you can be enjoying dry air.  You’ll pay a little less than two hundred and they last for many years.—jack

Response:

He popped up from the five levels of philosophical darkness.  This is what Medicine was until empiricism came on board.  A philosophy and a pitch.  Tsk tsk—jack

Response:

History shows there were severe complications and many deaths form asthma due to a lack of medications. The same holds true for all diseases.  It is the miracle of modern medications, vaccinations, and such that have improved and extended the life of millions.  This is the reason people are living longer, because of the invent and improvement of modern medicines; not due to your lame brain non-use of medication.  You, whoever you are, are a quack of vast dimensions.  Of course, coming from India, a country in which many worship animals, while watching your children starve, do have a warped since of logic and reality.  It is a shame your children have to experience such great suffering due to the ignorance of people like you.

Response:

It is exactly this warped logic that kills, not medication.  It is the discovery of medications, vaccinations, etc. that have improved or extended the lives of millions.  History shows how millions have suffered tremendously throughout there lives due to a lack of adequate medications for asthma.  It is not until the last 5 or 7 years that vast improvement has been made in the treatment of asthma.  More people are able to live close to normal lives with less suffering  and are living longer due to the improvements of medications. This holds true for all diseases.  People with diseases are able to live better and longer lives with there disease because there are millions who care about medical advancement and technologies.     You are a quack  and practice the art of quackery and are a leader to the misguided and unfortunate people who do not have the access to knowledge.  You take their money and make a living on the ignorance of others.  I just hope they don’t suffer too much due to your enlightenment.
