FLOVENT and Cortosteroids: Improvement?

Question:

Hello, I have bad asthma, but now its kind of strange, as I started Flovent about two years ago, I am virtually asthma free! I know there are at least SOME minor and possibly major side effects from Flovent, etc. But my god, the benefits FAR outweigh them! Cataracts are rare, but can happen, but I would rather be BLIND that dead of an attack because I relied on Ventolin alone! I would love to hear other asthmatics experiences with Flovent, but lazy as people are, the majority of people helped by Flovent are too busy NOT thinking of Asthma! Well I am, and keep 100% on top of my Flovent 220 x2pufs x2 a day (4 puffs a day). I can ready my daughter stories before bed now! But in a way I feel guilty, to those who die, those who suffer and feel scared, I still feel scared, and that’s good! We seem to do what we are supposed to when we are scared, like take our medication on time, and NEVER be embarrassed to seek ER visits and use our nebulizers, etc. I have never had an attack so bad I needed to be put on a respirator though, so I appear to have BAD asthma, but even mild asthmatics can have attacks that can kill them if they take them lightly, and ignore their doctor’s advice. I have had attacks so bad I seized up and could not get much air in, but good old trusty Ventolin NEVER failed me. Well, good luck everyone, but remember, LUCK isn’t enough, we need education and willingness to follow docs orders! -James W

If you are 100% under control in you place I would talk to my doctor about cutting back to 1 puff flovent 2 twice a day and that worked try switching to 110 folvent. If you use a peak flow meter you should be able to tell well in advance of any problems what the least effective dose is. That’s a lot of flovent. Gordon Couger Stillwater OK
