Flovent and Constant Bronchitis?

When they put me on a moderately high dose of Aerobid some years ago, a similar thing happened to me.  I started catching colds at the rate of one every six weeks.  (Whereas prior to starting Aerobid, I only would catch about 2 colds per year.) > Also doctors present the side effects like they > are no big deal, but constant sickness is what I went ON Flovent for, I seem > to have traded asthma attacks for bad bronchitis, both of wich can become > deadly, albeit bronchitis is more managable than asthma. Can you ask your physician about lowering the dose of Flovent?   (What dose are you on now?) According to the package insert, the risk of respiratory infection is less at the lower dosage levels. In the meantime:  I almost never get acute bronchitis except following a cold.  If that’s how you’re getting bronchitis, there are things you can do to keep a cold from turning into bronchitis.  Most importantly, irrigate your nose to keep the purulent (germ-filled) secretions from dripping down into your windpipe, spreading the infection down there to your lungs. — Steven D. Litvintchouk                   "I guess I could have paid a little closer attention when I was in English class, but it all worked out OK.  I’m gainfully employed."      – President George W. Bush

Response:

The alternative to Flovent is Pulmicort.  I switched from large doses of Vanceril to Pulmicort about six months ago and the frequent pneumonia/antibiotics and prednisone cycles have dried up. (Just be sure to rinse and gargle thoroughly twice:  this is pure budesonide powder thru an inhalation device)—jack

Look, I love what Flovent does; control my asthma. What I don’t like is the fact that I get sick all the time! I got bronchitis three times this year, and was on antibiotics, now I feel like its happening again, and I will have to go on antibiotics, get the pattern? Multiply this by 20 years, and damnit, my LUNGS will give out from the stress to them! The imunosupressive effects of inhaled steroids like Flovent are quickly negating the good they do with the side effects. Also doctors present the side effects like they are no big deal, but constant sickness is what I went ON Flovent for, I seem to have traded asthma attacks for bad bronchitis, both of wich can become deadly, albeit bronchitis is more managable than asthma. But how long can our lungs take this yo-yo pace of bad infections? Anyone been on Flovent, and switched to another Medication that did the same job with less side effects? I am so depressed, it seemed for the first year Floven was a miracle drug, and it is, but at a PRICE; infection and bruisng for me. Thanks
