What HEPA filters are the best out there?

Question:

I was looking at americare filters and IQair filters and wondered how good they really are.  Has anyone had bad experinces with certain HEPA filters. Did you notice any difference in your asthma/allergy after you used a HEPA filter?   How much of a difference was it? Thanks Carlos

I’ve got a cylindrical honeywell filter that at the least helps with dust and cat dander in the bedroom.  I’ve noticed an effect on my allergies, though not the asthma per se.  My asthma is pretty well controlled, so there’s not a great deal to notice.  I like the quiet fan noise at night, at least.  I wouldn’t spend a fortune on a HEPA filter hoping for a miracle.  If you seal up a room to really let the filter at it, it gets pretty damn stuffy in there.

I bought an Air Sterilizer that uses heat to destroy all airborne microorganisms and organic particles. It is a new technology. The air passes through a ceramic core and the heat just kill them all. It uses NO UV light, just heat. Since it uses just heat, the unit requires no maintenance, is noiseless and produces no residue such ozone or chemical gas. The manufacturer has a lot of efficiency independent tests showing airborne bacteria, mold and dust mites reduction It is worth to take a look at them, mainly for those who understand more about air pollution. Well, noiseless, Independent test against mold, bacteria, dust mites, ozone free, maintenance free, small dimensions, a lot of attractive advantages. Several on line stores in the US already sell it. I bought mine in allergybuyersclub for only US 275.0 Bye Camila

Camila What effect does this Air Sterilizer have on room temperature, especially in summer?  I take summer heat better than most other people but don’t like to add to the heat. I have a Honeywell Enviracaire which has helped at times but adds a bit to the room temperature.  This is undesirable in summer but can be advantageous in cooler times.  Since I seem to breathe better in outdoor air than indoor air except in cold winter weather, I often open windows during the warmer months when it’s not too hot outdoors.

I got one for about $100 at target which is a good price for the rate of recycling the air in the room as opposed to the smaller and larger size, this was the best deal.

HEPA filters have made a remarkable difference in the quality of my life – because I spend most of my time near them, I’m much more able to tolerate the time I spend outdoors.  The only downsides I see are the expense of buying them, the expense of replacing the filters, and the noise they make. I take Allegra every day for allergies.  If I’m outside when the medication starts to wear off, I always notice it – coughing, runny nose, itchy eyes.  If I’m in the house, where we have one HEPA filter on each floor, I don’t notice it at all.  That’s a pretty dramatic difference. -S- – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I was looking at americare filters and IQair filters and wondered how > good they really are.  Has anyone had bad experinces with certain HEPA > filters. > Did you notice any difference in your asthma/allergy after you used a > HEPA filter? > How much of a difference was it? > Thanks > Carlos
