Chest Pain
Question:
Hi all. I have asthma and am on Advair, also allergies and I take Claritin, I’ve stopped taking the Claritin lately though b/c my allergies haven’t been bothering me at all since it’d gotten cold. Just recently since last night and through this morning I have been experiencing bad chest pain, it feels like my lungs are just hurting and aching; also it’s weird becuase if I put my arms above my head and expand my lungs they stop hurting. I am breathing just fine but my chest and my back really hurt. I don’t know if it could be stress, its finals week and I’ve been studying non-stop, but its really bothering me. My question is, could it be asthma/allergy related and if it doesn’t stop should I do something? Tx. -Amy

Amy- Best rule of thumb – go see a dr. If associated with severe coughing or fever, you could even have pneumonia. Who knows? If cold sweats, pain radiating up and down the arm, could be your heart. One thing a friend of mine told me yesterday – If not treated properly, asthma can cause heart problems. I actually never thought about that, and I’m pretty good at neglecting myself. Always took care of my kids first. And yes, BTW, stress sure does goofy things to our bodies. Best to be on the safe side, tho’. — Jan *I just LOVE to give homemade gifts. Cnest pain should be checked out by a Dr. I have chest pain like this and it is usually because my lungs are tight and when I lift my arms above my head it streaches out the lung area. However this should all be checked out by a Dr to make sure and maybe change your meds. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Hi all. I should add that it also ended after I got used to the Advair, and I’ve not had but occasional symptoms that are much more minor. But the symptoms I was having before I starting using the Advair were so devastating that I had to do something. My doctor keeps tabs on me and I seem to be fine. –Jane

Do you slouch when you read/study? Could your problem be posture related? Wouldn’t happen except during heavy studying times. Ted

While I second the motion that you should seek a genuine medical opinion if you’re in pain, there would seem to my completely amateur opinion that it might well be related to muscular pain rather than lung pain. My opinion is worth nothing, but having had costochondritis and various spasm in the muscles between ribs and slightly dislocated ribs as well as all sorts of aches and pains from wheezing and coughin, I can vouch for the fact that there are all sorts of things that cause discomfort in the chest which aren’t related to viscera. zg
