no trouble

Response:

Ask your doctor to prescribe some `Zirtek`. It`s only one pill a day, and it works well for me.

Thanks everyone for your great advice.  I am about to call my Primary Care Physician for a referral to an Allergist.  When I make the appointment, I’ll be sure to ask them how long they want me "clean" of any type of medications.  That was a good point, Janet, thanks.  Also, thanks to the folks who emailed me privately.  This has been a frustrating problem and I am looking forward to some sort of treatment (one that won’t make me so drowsy, like my usual antihistamines tend to)… I’ll even look forward to shots, if they will give me relief! Thanks again, Lynn

Hi: Well you are not alone I love this sight everyone is so helpful and they answer your questions.  I am 35 and in January of this year I came down with pnuomia. Since then it has all been down hill.  I now have allergy induced asthma.  I now have to carry my own breathing machine along with me every where I go. and I also have many inhalers to use it sure is not fun.  If i was you I would go see an allergist they will be able to pin point what you have but all I can say is hang in there I really can’t say that it gets better because this is all new to me. As for your scracthy eyes I use Refresh plus eye drops they come in individual containers but it works really well. Hang in there you are deffinetly not alone. You can e-mail me if you want to. Janet

Response:

Hi I would defffinetly contact your asthma allergist doctor before takeing anything over the counter because if they want to do an allergy test those meds could cause it not to perform correctly. Janet

Hi all. Hoping to get some advice or suggestions.  Since the birth of my twins 18 months ago, I’ve started having some strange "new" allergy symptoms.  I’ve had seasonal allergies since I was a kid (I’m 38) and pretty sure that I’m allergic to pet dander (never kept me from having pets all my life, though).  When my hay fever flared up (usually in the early fall or spring), I just take Drixoral or some other OTC products and move on with my life. My new "allergy" symptoms (especially one in particular) were making me absolutely *nuts* last night and I finally decided to look to the internet for info.  I was rubbing my chin and throat raw.  Went to Google and typed in "wheezing itchy chin throat cough" and *bingo*… all that came up was *Asthma*!  Found some really good sites and I have almost every single symptom… all of which I’ve been assuming were regular allergies. I do plan to talk to my doctor to find out for sure, but I was wondering, are there any good Over the Counter remedies to use in the meantime to alleviate some of these irritating symptoms (especially the itching)??? I never knew that you could just develop asthma out of the blue like this (if I am indeed correct).  Other symptoms that are making me crazy are constant running nose, sneezing, coughing, wheezing, itchy watery eyes… and in the past year, it takes me a good hour or more to get to sleep. Thanks in advance

You can try Benedryl in the evenings and one of the nonsedating OTC antihistamines during the day. The best thing you can do is see a doctor ASAP.  The stuff you really need is only available by prescription.  (This is assuming that the problem really is asthma.) It’s a terrible responsibility – but somebody has to be the Americans.
