asthma and headaches

You are right. I had similar problem and put off going to a doctor and ended up with a bad neurological problem with 10 days in the hospital with additional therapy.Ongoing headaches should be taken seriously.

I agree with Allan. First get a workup done to find out at least what it is not. You can benefit by including vitamins in your diet, but don’t expect this to remedy your headache. And because it is a constant headache, it is wearing you down, which may explain your other symptoms. Bob

I’ve never had a typical headache from allergies, but I have had what other folks have told me are migraines. The symptoms are that when I’m exposed to strong allergens, I get severe double vision and slight pain on the very top of my head. The first time this happened to me, I was driving my car home after a repair and the mechanic had hung one of those pine tree air fresheners from the rearview mirror. I only had a mile or two to drive, but my vision got so blurry, I almost had to pull over. As soon as I got away from the smell, I felt fine. The second time this reaction happened, my hair had just been shampooed at a salon with a pineapple-scented rinse. As far as I can tell, this reaction isn’t medically serious, but it certainly is alarming! — (650) 236-2231 [daytime] http://www.wsrcc.com/alison/ There are important differences between Milosevic and Sharon. I would definitely recommend going to a neurologist. I had bad headaches for a couple of months that everything else wouldn’t help. I went to the neurologist, who immediately sent me to an optical neurologist. It turned out I had something called papilledema, which is the swelling of the nerves of the eyes. It was caused by Psuedo Tumor, which is a side effect of prednisone. It causes excess fluid in your spinal column which swells the nerves of the eyes. I now take meds for it, and the headaches are gone. Im not saying that is what you have, but it could be something like that. Definitely go to a neurologist and make sure. Same situation but my headache and muscle tension is so bad that I take lorazepam (adavan) almost every night before bed. This is the first I have heard others discribe the same thing I have, most doctors thought I was crazy when I discribed how painful it was. Have been taking the Adavan for about 3 years with no harmful effects. Most other seditives don’t work. Lane Lane

During the course of my asthma, I’ve had headaches as well, but they have been from a variety of related sources: sinusitis, a virus or bacterium that triggered the asthma in the first place, and once (for two continuous months) from tapering from prednisone too quickly. In that case I was put back on pred and allowed a slooow taper. The point is, this could be from many causes, including the ones I listed above. Others include temporal (giant cell) arteritis, thyroid problems, ocular/vision problems as well as some of the more ominous neurological problems that have already been addressed by others. But why guess or just throw meds at this? See your doctor for a workup to really know… Good Luck.

Sorry about that!! We are in the process of setting up a new computer and have not fine tuned everything yet. I think I made the correct change, is this better. Sue

Much better – thank you. — "What Sept. 11 did was remind us that there are times when we must fight for our country, that, indeed, there are things – our liberty, our democracy, our belief in human rights and human dignity – worth fighting for." Newsday.com editorial – 27 May 2002

It would be a good idea to see a neurologist next, to rule out any pathology. What were you doing several days prior to the first headache that may have precipitated it? I sometimes get allergy related headaches. What happens to me is that my sinuses fill and then my neck and upper back muscles begin to tense (or so it was explained by an MD). If I do nothing I can end up with a horrible tension headache although most of the time it’s just a nagging type. The MD who first treated me for these headaches prescribed barbitutal plus aspirin or acetominophen. I have since discovered that 600 mg of ibuprofen is sufficient for dealing with all but the worst kind. BTW, not to be an alarmist, but, there are other brain related problems that can cause persistent headaches.
